Summary
In her 2011 article, Chantal Munsch explores the tension between civic groups’ claims of openness and unequal opportunities to participate. She combines perspectives on diversity and social inequality with approaches grounded in everyday experience and ethnography.
The article examines how familiar discussion styles, ideas about effective engagement and unequal resources shape access. Informal support and engagement arising from personal experience can easily be overlooked.
